Latest Turkey Weather

Turkey is a very diverse country and has many areas with widely varying climates. The map below illustrates the main regions.

Turkey Weather Regions

Mamara weather
Home to Turkey's capital Istanbul (see our live Weather feed below for current temperatures). The countryside around Istanbul, Edirne, Bursa and the Sea of Marmara is low hills and rolling farmland which is particularly good for fruit orchards as well other other vegetables and grain. South of Bursa are higher mountains over 2500 metres.
Maximum 40C, Minimum -16C, rainfall is approx 67cm per annum. It is also quite humid at an average of 73%.

Mediterranean weather
Turkey's southern shore flanked by high mountain ranges. There's little beach from Fethiye to Antalya, but east of Antalya there are many stunning beaches. The mountains keep this coast very hot and humid in summer. Maximum 46C, Minimum -5C, rainfall is approx 78cm

Aegean weather
The Aegean region centered on Izmir is very variable in terms of flora with low rolling hills and higher mountains. With very fertile soil this region is a major producer of crops.
Maximum 43C minimum -8C, rainfall averages 65cm, with high humidity (up to 90%).

Central Anatolia weather
The centre of Turkey is a high plateau (height above sea level 900m) of rolling tundra surrounded by mountains many of which are snow capped volcanoes). The land produces a range of crops including wheat and feeds millions of sheep.
Maximum 40C minimum -25C, rainfall averages 38cm, average humidity at 61%.

Black Sea Coast weather
Turkey's Black Sea coast, 1700 km/1000 miles long, is surprisingly lush and green because of its 78cm of annual rainfall dropped as the winds crossing the Black Sea rise to over the coastal mountains. Crops here include tobacco, cherries and hazlenuts. In the evergreen populated valleys above, you might think you're in Central Europe, though warmer.
Maximum 40C minimum -8C, rainfall averages 78cm, with high humidity (up to 72%).

Eastern Anatolia weather
Eastern Turkey experiences extremes of temperature where temperatures drop to -43C in deep winter, and rise to 38C/100F in summer, though the annual average is just 9C. June to September are the best months to visit due to the serious cold temperatures at most other times of the year. Rainfall is 56cm

Southeastern Anatolia weather
This region although bordering Eastern Anatolia has a much kinder climate (assuming you like heat !). Bordering the banks of the rivers Tigris (Diyarbakir) and the riverĀ  Euphrates (near Sanliurfa) it's hot most of the time: up to 46C high summer and as low as -12 in Winter. Rainfall 58cm. Due to the huge Anatolia Project (GAP) irrigation assures rapid growth of many grops.
