About Turkey

Turkey is a beautiful country with amazing flora and fauna and lots of history. There are numerious lakes and some, such as Lake Van, are as big as inland seas. In the north, the Eastern Black Sea Mountain string runs symmetrical to the Black Sea; in the south, the Taurus mountains sweep downward nearly to the narrow, fertile coastal stretch. Turkey enjoys a variety of climates, changing from temperate Black Sea area, to the continental in the interior and eventually to the Mediterranean climate of the Aegean and Mediterranean costal regions. The coastline of Turkey's four seas is  8,333 kilometres long.

The area comprising contemporary Turkey has overseen the birth of leading civilizations such as the Byzantine and Ottoman Empires. Because of its important position, where two continents meet, Turkey's civilization has an unusual mix of Eastern and Western custom, frequently described as a bridge between the two civilizations. A strong territorial presence in the Eurasian landmass with powerful social and economic force in the region between the Adriatic Sea in the west and China in the east, Russia in the north and the Middle East in the south, Turkey is a country of significant influence.

Politics & Economics

Turkey is a parliamentary, secular, unitary, republic whose political structure was established in 1923 under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, following the decline of the Ottoman Empire in the wake of World War I. Since then, Turkey has get progressively integrated with the West while continuing to foster relations with the Middle East. It is a founding member of the United Nations, the OECD, the Organisation of the Islamic Conference and the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe. A member country of the Council of Europe since 1949, and of NATO since 1952.

Turkey joined the European Economic Community (today known as the European Union) as an associate member in 1963, the Western European Union as an associate member in 1992, and signed the EU Customs Union accord in 1995. Since 2005, Turkey has been in negotiations about complete membership of the EU. Turkey is  also a member of the G-20, which together the 20 most powerful economic nations.

Why Invest in Turkey Property?

Turkey offers excellent quality of life, high quality developments (although any investor must do their homework - see our Services page) and excellent returns. Along with Morocco it is probably the closest exotic destination to the UK where a property investment can offer both excellent investment potential along with a terrific place to take annual holidays.

Popular Turkey Tourist Destinations & Property Investment Hotspots

Bodrum Peninsula

The stunning Bodrum Peninsula suits holidaymakers looking for a subdued and relaxing air. Enchanting villages, with guest-houses and tiny hotels on calm bays, stud the peninsula. On the south-central coast, Bardakci, Gümbet, Bitez, Ortakent, Karaincir, Bagla and Akyarlar have elegant, sandy beaches. Campers and wind-surfers love Gümbet, and at Bitez multicolored sail boards interweave skillfully among the masts of yachts in the bay.

Bodrum has gained the reputation as the centre of the Turkish artwork community with its energetic, cordial and Bohemian air and many tiny galleries. This community has encouraged a casual day-time living manner and a night-time of exhilaration. The evenings in Bodrum are for sitting lazily in one of the many restaurants, dining on sweet seafood and new Aegean specialties. Afterwards night clubs and superb discos can keep you going until daybreak.

Cesme Izmir

Izmir dates back as early as 3000 B.C. Formerly known as the Smyrna or later in 1800 B. C. In the Turkish era the metropolis was called Izmir.

Çesme, 85 kilometer (53 miles) du€ west of Izmir, is the port for ferries to Chios, the Greek island, as well as for the car-and-passenger ferries to and from Italy. Çesme (CHESH-meh, "fountain" or "spring," pop. 100,000) is an enjoyable, sun-and-beach resort, particularly for visitors from Izmir, Scandinavia and the United Kingdom. There are fantastic beaches south of Çesme, and at near Ilica (UH-luh-jah), easily accesible by car. The principal square has restaurants, cafes, tea houses, and nice sundown views of the Aegean Sea. Çesme's tiny fortress, now nicely restored as the local museum, looms over the square and provides a nice large dosage of story and architectural role.

Antalya

The region around Antalya offers sights of astonishing natural beauty as well as awesome historical remains. You can walk behind the cascade, a thrilling experience, at the Upper Düden Waterfalls, 14 km northeast of Antalya. On the way to Lara Beach, the Lower Düden Waterfalls plunge straight into the sea. The nearby rest area offers an excellent view of the falls; the view is even more spectacular from the sea. Kursunlu Waterfalls and Nilüfer Lake, both 18 km from Antalya are two more places of superb natural beauty.

If you are in any doubt about Turkey's potential have a look what some popular sources have to say:

Place in the Sun

The Market: Turkish delights
They used to say that prices in Turkey were the same as in Spain… if you knocked a nought off. But the days of the £10,000 beachside apartment are over; nowadays you might have to pay £20,000. Brits have discovered the beauty of this huge, historic country, three times bigger than the UK and with 7,000 kilometres of coastline. We have traditionally headed for the Mediterranean and south Aegean coasts, with British and Irish holiday home-owners in resorts like Marmaris and Fethiye. But now we’re going north as enterprising Turks develop more of the coastline. The Bodrum Peninsula is a popular spot right now; recently described as being “the new San Tropez”, where wooded countryside meets the shore in a series of glorious bays and pretty fishing villages. Talk to any Turkish developer and they’ll insist that they’ve learnt lessons from other countries and will not be allowing crass over-development, though in parts of the country they seem to be coming perilously close! However, if a £40,000 three-bed villa amongst other Brits is exactly what you’re looking for you have a choice of resorts. For others, who might traditionally have headed for France or Tuscany, there is unspoilt beauty around every corner. Like the Cesme peninsula. Just an hour’s drive from Izmir, with regular flights to the UK, this stretch of coast is so close to the Greek islands that many use Izmir as a closer airport than going via Greece. A new development of golf courses and pretty homes is going up, based around the village of Alacati. Anyone who doubts the classy, European appeal of Turkey should visit this picture-perfect village, popular with visitors from Istanbul. With all this building, off-plan and new-builds are most popular. It is difficult to predict whether the general house inflation can continue, or whether over-supply will force prices down. But either way it can’t be long before those same people who have been buying up every gorgeous old finca in the Balearics realise there are equally beautiful renovation projects in Turkey too; at a tenth of the price.

The Times

For many people Turkey has other advantages too: a friendly, exotic culture, great shopping and some of the best-preserved archaeological sites in the world. The Government’s successful economic reforms have also encouraged investors, and new laws make it easier for UK citizens to buy Turkish property and tourist numbers are rising by 25 per cent a year.

The property boom is concentrated on the coastal resorts along the Aegean and Mediterranean seas, namely the fashionable Bodrum peninsula, Dalaman and Fethiye as well as the traditional seaside towns of Kas, Kalkan and Altinkum. In some resorts, prices are said to have risen by 100 per cent in the past two years. A more realistic guide would be 20 per cent per annum. On some developments the spectacular price rises are being driven by speculators rather than genuine holiday-home buyers. “Flipping” — when investors sell on off-plan contracts before the development is finished — is also occurring. When the speculators move on to a new market, house prices may stagnate or even fall.
